FAQ – Realising a Compassionate Planet

As we enter the decade of last chance for addressing climate change, the necessary steps require responses from all levels of society and a new source of motivation for action. Compassion is one of the most powerful catalysts for change available to humankind. CCARE is thrilled to co-host this groundbreaking event that brings climate science into dialogue with compassion science. Doing so aligns with our mission to raise public awareness about the power of compassion across all domains of society.

Everyone interested in a fundamental shift in the dominant values, motivations, and priorities of the modern world should attend this live online event, or register as a delegate to receive access to the event recordings and resources. We all have a stake in changing our relationship with one another and with the earth that sustains us. We stand at the brink of climate destruction, and we need a planetary movement that welcomes all as we look toward a new foundation for innovation.

Bringing the science of compassion into dialogue with the science of climate change, we hope to catalyze the power of compassion to care for the human family. The recent United Nations climate report – endorsed by hundreds of scientists and representing thinking from every country on Earth – likens the current situation to a “code red” for humanity. Droughts, heatwaves, flooding, wildfires – the signs are all around us that we must act now.

Compassion is the human response to the suffering inherent in climate change. Compassion offers the intrinsic motivation that can link climate science to the practical solutions for us and our planet. It is the motivational ‘glue’ that can bind us together to make coordinated change at the scale needed to secure sustainable and flourishing lives for future generations.

We hope you will join us for this day of conversation and action. You will meet changemakers, scientists, activists, and artists who are working to fundamentally shift how we relate to one another and to the human family.

Your registration as an official delegate to Realising a Compassionate Planet will grant you access to the exclusive event portal that houses the event, where you will find resources for changemakers, live sessions, and a compassion-in-action gallery where you can interact with others, and more.

You will also gain access to recordings of all the sessions, which will not be available to those who do not register as delegates, and follow up resources to support compassion in action to realize a compassionate planet.

Full delegate registration is available for $150, with sliding scale options beginning at $5.

All registered delegates receive full access to the event and follow up event resources, including recordings of event sessions.

We ask all who attend to pay what they can afford, as this event is supported by those who attend! Additional scholarships are available (apply online), and we will not turn away anyone due to financial hardship.

No. Your official delegate registration entitles you to join the Realising a Compassionate Planet portal at any time after it is opened. You may enter and leave the event at will. Your official delegate registration also entitles you to exclusive access to the recordings of the live sessions, which you can view at your convenience.

All officially registered delegates will have access to the event portal and exclusive access to recordings of the event sessions, as well as follow on resources related to creating change with compassion.

No, after you register for the event at acompassionateplanet.org, you are all set to attend! You will receive credentials to join the event portal nearer to the event date. All sessions will be open to all delegates on the day of the event.

The event is planned to run alongside the United Nations Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP26) that is taking place in Glasgow, Scotland. We will share the stage with many people attending the COP26 gathering, giving us a window into this important world event. All of the sessions in Realising a Compassionate Planet are structured as live conversations, designed to engage you in the real dialogues going on now.

Among the questions that our presenters will engage are: How can the moral and existential imperative of compassion become a practical, material reality? How do we activate compassion in the sphere of climate action? What lessons might we take from those who study and work with this powerful quality that can move nations, peoples, communities and individuals to forge peace despite strong impulses to avenge? Or that impels us to restore and defend the rights of those previously excluded from our circles of care and concern?

You will have access to a sophisticated live online conference portal, dedicated solely to this event. You will be able to chat in real time with others from around the world who are attending, as well as engage in live question and answer sessions with presenters. You will also gain access to a unique compassion-in-action gallery, where you will find new ways to engage compassion at a planetary scale.

Yes! This live online event will have full interactive capabilities, including the ability to meet and chat with other delegates and interact with event presenters as you participate in their live conversations.

Here are a number of suggestions and tips to ensure you can view the event properly on the day that it is live:
