Capstone Project
Cultivating Compassion and Physician Well-Being
Who did your project serve and what suffering did it address?
My Capstone Project served physicians working at Stanford Hospital and it addressed the emotional challenges of caring for hospitalized people.
How did this project address that suffering?
My worked encouraged physicians to acknowledge the emotional burden of our work and it supported physician self-compassion and compassion for each other.
Who was your audience and how many people participated?
I delivered a talk and workshop to an audience of approximately 20 physicians, and we expect to have meetings every other month going forward.
What was the reported impact on or feedback from participants?
It was wonderful to bring more heart to our work. Physicians reported that the project opened their hearts to acknowledge the suffering involved in our work and to receive compassion from themselves and their colleagues.
How has the ACT Program helped you become an Ambassador of Compassion?
It has supported me with the knowledge and skills of practicing compassion so that I can share this content with my physician peers. ACT also showed me the power of experiential learning.
What advice would you give to someone who’s considering participating in the ACT Program?
This program will provide you with knowledge, skills, and experiences to become a mindfulness and compassion leader in your organization.
