I very much enjoyed this talk and I also have listented to the talk with Dean Ornish. A few comments come to mind and if you would like to speak to my thoughts that would be wonderful.
First you spoke of animals and that they live in the now and that we love them because they love unconditionally. I am a horse trainer and coach and I have become very aware of how selfishly we love animals. We offer them very little respect in return. I have seen in horses that I train for other people when that person comes the distress in that horses eyes that he now has to deal with the owner again. Some horses are totally happy to see their owners. Also something as small as leading a horse, most people are not aware of the horse, that he is relying on the human to lead him and allow him to walk in unsafe places or step on harmful things. This leads me to think that they reflect how good we are at interacting with people. There is an exercise that can be done where you lead another human while that person has his eyes closed. How good are you at keeping him safe. This goes back to Dean Ornish saying that the people we enjoy being with are those who we feel safe with
Secondly you spoke of negative self talk. Some of our negative self talk comes in my opinion because we are afraid to believe (because if we do we will hex the good) in the posltive. So we talk negatively because subconsciously we feel that the positive would bring about a negative reaction and maybe by thinking negative we will bring about a positive reaction.
The next thought I had during this talk was about group mentality and how destructive this can be even though it is necessary. Does chosing the group I belong to also reinforce my believe system thereby making me stronger but society as a whole weaker.
Lastly I was troubled by the man who had no extreme of emotion. I do not completely believe this is enlightenment. I believe we should feel the emotions but not own them. The joy of a wonderful present is to be embraced as much as the beauty of a flower…. the sadness of the death of a loved one should be felt like the death of a forest.
Some of the reactions I had while listening to this talk. thanks so much for having these available to listen to. 🙂 Carola
